Trillian™ is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that
supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. It provides
capabilities not possible with original network clients, while
supporting standard features such as audio chat, file transfers, group
chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to
the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification,
direct connection (AIM), proxy support, encrypted messaging (AIM/ICQ),
SMS support, and privacy settings.
Trillian provides unique
functionality such as contact message history, a powerful skinning
language, tabbed messaging, global status changes (set all networks
away at once), Instant Lookup (automatic Wikipedia integration),
contact alerts, an advanced automation system to trigger events based
on anything happening in the client, docking, hundreds of emoticons,
emotisounds, shell extensions for file transfers, and systray
notifications.

TerraIM is an instant messaging client that connects to the AOL Instant Messenger network. Thus, one can use TerraIM with an existing AIM, ICQ, or AOL screen name. Just log in using your AIM screen name or ICQ number with TerraIM, and your regular buddy list will show up.
TerraIM has several useful features:
- Portability - TerraIM easily fits on a floppy, and requires no install. It is perfect for environments where AIM cannot be installed, such as school networks.
- Aliasing - set an alias for a buddy and that alias is displayed everywhere instead of the person's screen name.
- Invisible login - login directly to invisible mode, so no one suspects that you are online
- Logging - TerraIM implements real time logging. All instant messages can be recorded to files.
- Remote Control - leave TerraIM running at home and remotely check messages, change the away message, and download files.
- Tabbing - you have the option of having all your instant messages with one window, with tabs to switch between them.
- Low RAM usage - While the latest version of AIM from AOL uses 60+ mb of RAM, TerraIM normally usess less than 5.
- Skinnability - TerraIM is fully skinnable.

The Exodus client was originally developed by Peter Millard, a longtime contributor to the Jabber/XMPP community.
